Product overview

Half shell mussels work well when presentation matters but buyers still need efficient preparation. The format supports retail trays, frozen seafood displays, foodservice appetizers, restaurant menu items, seafood platters, and value-added products where the mussel remains visually present.

Buyer applications

Common uses include topped half-shell mussels, garlic butter mussels, frozen retail trays, seafood counters, banquet programs, and foodservice items that require stable shell-on presentation.

Quality and documentation

Ask Toralla for product specifications, export documents, batch traceability, packaging options, and certification references. Confirm whether cooked or blanched format, glazing, carton size, language labels, and market documents match the target program.

Storage and cold chain

The frozen product is held at -18°C and must not be allowed to partially thaw and refreeze, which damages texture and food safety. Toralla holds finished product in 65,000 m³ of cold storage at -18°C before shipment and across the ocean voyage. Confirm the production date, shelf life, storage temperature, and the customs documentation your destination market requires.

Origin and certification

Made from Mytilus chilensis, the Chilean blue mussel grown on long lines in the cold channels of Chiloé without touching the seabed. Toralla was the first Chilean mussel fishery to earn MSC certification and also holds Friend of the Sea, BRCGS, HACCP, and EU and US export approval. All certificates are available on request for buyer due diligence.
